I am so excited for today’s post!
I had the privilege of interviewing the ever-so-lovely and oh-so-talented ladies Kara Leigh Miller and Jody Holford. Their novel, DANGEROUS LOVE, part of the MENDING HEARTS SERIES, releases on April 13th.
I’ve read this book more than once and it is something that I’m definitely going to read again.
Here’s a refresher of what the book is about before we get into the questions:
Dangerous Love by Kara Leigh Miller and Jody Holford
He’s fighting to forget his past while she struggles to remember hers…
Doctor Josh Parker lives with guilt about his wife’s death every day.
He believes himself incapable of ever loving again, but when a mysterious woman arrives in the Emergency Room, brutally beaten and left for dead, he starts to feel something he hasn’t felt in far too long: hope.
Alessandra Matthews has no memory of the events that led to her being hospitalized. Worse, she has no idea who hurt her or why. Although she’s uncertain of who she is, she is fully aware of one thing—she’s falling for her doctor.
Sometimes, what you don’t know can kill you…
As Josh and Alessa work to solve the mystery surrounding her past, she soon realizes just how much danger she’s really in, but Josh refuses to let her face the darkness of her memories alone. With each of them struggling to put their pasts behind them, theirs is a DANGEROUS LOVE.

Okay, now let’s hear from the authors a little bit more about DANGEROUS LOVE and find more reasons to preorder and read this book!
- How did the idea for this book come about?
Kara: I’m honestly not sure where or how this idea came to me. Like most of my other ideas, I probably heard something or saw something that stuck with me and it just morphed into something else. That happens to me a lot.
Jody: Kara had the idea ready when she ran a contest for Anaiah Press. She had two characters and an idea of what story she was hoping to tell. We built on it, talked about it, pulled it apart, talked some more, and then just kept going.
- How was it different working together than working alone?
Kara: It’s not as lonely. lol. It’s amazing to have someone just as invested in the story to be able to talk out plot holes and ideas, characterization issues. Not to mention, writing together tends to go faster. With two people writing, the words get on the page much faster. We also tend to keep each other on track, which prevents the story from going off on wild tangents.
Jody: Accountability. Someone to bounce ideas off of is really nice. I find that the writing is cleaner because we’re constantly reviewing the other’s work to catch up and pick up where they left off. And when you hit a slump, someone can actually step in and know where to take the story. I like working on my own, too, but working with Kara is really awesome. Working together makes plot holes and character snags so much easier to deal with.
- Were there any changes during writing that came up while working together that were not in the plotting phase?
Kara: Originally, we had Josh’s deceased wife’s POV, but eventually removed it. We also decided about half way through to add in the bad guy’s POV, so we removed one POV and added another, which made us restructure a good portion of the novel.
Jody: Kara had originally envisioned that the audience would see Josh’s deceased wife’s point of view. It added another dimension and layer of emotion. But in the end, we felt like it didn’t work. So we had to take those parts out, restructure the story and still build in that emotion and view of Josh from a different perspective.
- What is your favorite line from Dangerous Love?
Kara: Wow. What a hard questions! lol. I have a lot of favorites, but this one is one Jody wrote, and I absolutely LOVE it because it’s one of those lines that just came from the character without any real thought or effort on our part. (To get the full context of why this line is so amazing and powerful, you’ll have to buy the book! Hehe)
Ethan made himself comfortable again and smiled at Josh with a pleased look in his eyes. “From where I’m sitting, that sounds an awful lot like faith.”
Jody: Technically, it’s more than one line, but I like this one because it’s true in life. We have a choice about what kind of people we want to be. It’s not always an easy choice, but it’s ours.
“What I want to do and what I’m going to do are two different things,” Josh said.
Ethan nodded, a grave expression on his face. “And that right there is what separates the good guys from the bad.”
5. Can you give us any info about the companion novel you’re writing now?
It’s called Jaded Love. The story focuses on Kristy, who you’ll meet in Dangerous Love. She meets Jackson, a police officer who is on leave. He’s fighting guilt and she’s fighting PTSD. They see things completely differently, but they’re drawn together and, like the name Mending Hearts would suggest, they heal each other.
Thank you so much Kara and Jody for taking the time to answer some of my questions. We can’t wait for the debut of this series and to fall in love with and follow all these wonderful characters!
